Maximising Warehouse Space

Ensuring that you achieve the maximum amount of space in your warehouse is largely dependant on the type of racking system you choose. Electronic wire guidance with high rise high density warehousing can be installed in new developments, renovations or expansions and will improve your warehouse's storage capacity. Traditional wide aisle racking systems are designed to allow ease of access to racking for lift trucks. These types of racking systems allow a certain amount of flexibility and access yet they are many drawbacks:

- Wide aisle racking decreases the amount of usable floor area, meaning that there are large amounts of wasted space in your warehouse
- Manually maneuvered trucks are less productive than guided trucks as time is wasted positioning the vehicle
- Manual maneuvering of vehicles causes driver fatigue, which reduces productivity and causes safety hazards
- Conventional forklifts generally do not have the reach of specially designed order pickers and turret trucks, meaning that the racking height is limited and storage space is reduced.

Double deep racking is created by placing two sets of shelving together and storing pallets two-deep. Special trucks are required to access the stock (however these trucks have a limited reach of only 9 metres).

- Double deep racking reduces the amount of aisles and increases storage space
- Guided vehicles increase productivity by reducing driver fatigue and wasted time

Very narrow aisle, when combined with high rise high density warehousing and electronic wire guidance allows for the maximum utilization of space:

- The use of order pickers and turret trucks allow access to racking 12-14 metres in height
- High rise high density racking gives better access to stock, which is excellent for businesses that need to order pick for mixed or small orders
- Guided trucks reduce driver fatigue and wasted time and increase productivity
- Guided trucks can be automatically slowed at the ends of aisles, increasing safety.
