What is Electronic Wire Guidance?
Electronic wire guidance consists of two basic components: a continuous closed loop guide wire installed in the floor under the warehouse isle and a vehicle control installed in the lift truck. A wall mounted line driver through the wire installed in the floor. When the lift truck is over the wire, the driver can choose to allow the truck to be controlled automatically. The truck then listens to the signal generated by the wire under the floor and mechanically aligns itself with the wire.
EWG systems are dependable and accurate. EWG allows vehicles to be guided toward the wire from angles of up to 30 degrees and is suitable for all vehicles requiring precise position orientation. EWG allows vehicles to travel at faster speeds resulting in an increase in productivity. Trucks can be automatically slowed as they reach the end of an isle to reduce the risk of accidents.
EWG can easily be developed for new warehouse premises or tailored to fit existing premises. The system can be installed in stages to reduce downtime during renovations or expansions and can be extended to meet your needs as your business grows.
EWG has many benefits, including:
- increasing racking height to 12-14 metres
- 50% utilization of floor space
- trucks can achieve a single cycle through-put of 30-40 pallets
- stock can be stored on the floor by eliminating bottom rails
- the ability to function in all climates including freezers where space is limited
- no maintenance costs
- improves OH & S
- relieves the operator from steering responsibilities, which reduces tension and fatigue
- allows uniform placement of loads in racks
